Rhythmic iron‐oxide bands of Navajo Sandstone concretions and Kimberley banded claystone: Formation process and buffering reaction rate by diagenetic alteration

چکیده

Abstract Both igneous and sedimentary rocks affected by water–rock interaction commonly form rhythmic Fe‐oxide bands that provide information on palaeo‐groundwater. This study investigated the formation of banded patterns concentrically concretions from Jurassic Navajo Sandstone (United States) claystone ‘zebra rock’ Neoproterozoic Johnny Cake Shale Member (Western Australia). Micro‐X‐ray fluorescence imaging both samples revealed uniformly asymmetrical Fe content peaks. proposes their formations were caused diffusion, with a pH buffering reaction 2+ O 2 due to dissolution earlier materials acidic fluids. Based model, it is suggested acid fluids for diffused towards inner side concretion, Kimberley they penetrated oblique or perpendicular bedding. In addition, precipitation has resulted rises because diagenetic alteration calcite concretion in pyrite‐bearing Kimberley. The interpretation based δ 34 S values (< –20‰) zebra rock, suggesting alunite supply SO 4 2– produced as result pyrite oxidation rocks. rate band was estimated constant width peaks expected diffusion coefficient through rock matrix, found be order years tens

Characterization of Navajo Sandstone Concretions: Mars Comparisons and Criteria for Distinguishing Diagenetic Origins

Introduction: Careful characterization of terrestrial concretions and Mars “blueberries” yields important criteria for distinguishing their diagenetic origin in comparison to other models for small, spherical forms. The Jurassic Navajo Sandstone in the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument (GSENM), southern Utah, contains many hydrous ferric oxide mineralization geometries (HFO phases inc...

simulation and experimental studies for prediction mineral scale formation in oil field during mixing of injection and formation water

abstract: mineral scaling in oil and gas production equipment is one of the most important problem that occurs while water injection and it has been recognized to be a major operational problem. the incompatibility between injected and formation waters may result in inorganic scale precipitation in the equipment and reservoir and then reduction of oil production rate and water injection rate. ...

Wettability Alteration of Sandstone and Carbonate Rocks by Using ZnO Nanoparticles in Heavy Oil Reservoirs

Efforts to enhance oil recovery through wettability alteration by nanoparticles have been attracted in recent years. However, many basic questions have been ambiguous up until now. Nanoparticles penetrate into pore volume of porous media, stick on the core surface, and by creating homogeneous water-wet area, cause to alter wettability. This work introduces the new concept of adding ZnO nanopart...
